IWGFA July 2021 Virtual Fly-In

Picture
Welcome to the Interfaith Working Group on Foreign Assistance's webpage for our July 2021 Virtual Fly-In Advocacy Day!

Join us on July 20th and July 22nd in advocating for the world’s most underserved communities.

The event will be split into two days:
  • Tuesday, July 20th from 2 pm – 4:05 pm ET: Legislative Overview, Advocacy Training, Practice Breakout Rooms, and Q&A
  • Thursday, July 22nd from 12 pm – 5:30 pm ET: State Breakout Rooms and Meetings with Congressional Offices

The purpose of this event is to bring together Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and other faith communities to advocate for robust humanitarian and poverty-focused foreign assistance funding.

Each participant will have the opportunity to virtually meet with their Congressional delegation to discuss the continued importance of federal funding for the international emergency humanitarian response to COVID-19. A new administration and a new Congress presents us, as the faith community, with new opportunities to engage with our elected officials and remind them of the importance of loving all of our neighbors.

This program will consist of the following:

Virtual Summit (Tuesday, July 20th): (Agenda Here)
  • Legislative Overview – Experts in foreign policy and government relations will walk you through the state of play – how COVID has impacted vulnerable populations worldwide and the U.S. response
  • Advocacy Training – Various policy experts will give you the tools to successfully engage your Members of Congress and walk your though the fine art of advocacy.
  • Breakout Rooms – Faith leaders will be broken into smaller groups to practice messaging and engaging with a Congressional office.
Advocacy Day (Thursday, July 22nd): (Agenda Here)
  • State Delegations – Faith leaders will be broken into their state delegations where they can meet the IWGFA member and other faith leaders that will be joining them on their visits. The group can also plan on how they will engage with each office (who will lead the introductions, who will share stories, etc.)
  • Meetings will be planned according to Member/staff availability throughout the afternoon. Typically, each faith leader will have 2-4 meetings, each lasting approximately 30 minutes

Advocacy Materials:
  1. Faith Leader Talking Points
  2. Faith Community Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations Request Letter
